Pray before meals. A great place to start!
Pray after meals. Practice praying the Angelus or another prayer.
Pray the Rosary as a family. Start by praying just one decade together.
Pray before bed. Pray aloud together and let everyone add people they’re praying for.
Pray in the car. Take advantage of this time that you’re all in one place together.
Pray for each other. Make it your family’s practice to offer to pray for one another and share prayer requests with one another.
Sing prayers. It’s like praying twice!
Prayer Pot. Write names of family members, friends, priests, teachers, government leaders – anyone you can think of – on popsicle sticks. Place the sticks in a pot and keep in a visible place. Each day or night, pull a stick from the pot and that’s who you offer special prayers for.
Highs & Lows. Have children share their highs & lows each night before bed.
Newspaper Prayer. Take turns flipping through the newspaper or news website and have everyone highlight one news item to pray about.
Prayer Chain. On colored strips of paper, write prayers and add as links to a family prayer chain. (Maybe assign colors to different types of prayer… red for sorry, yellow for thanks, white for forgiveness, blue for other people, green for the world, etc)
Go on a Prayer Walk. Walk around the neighborhood and as you pass by each home, pray for the people who live there.
Pray at times of crisis. When you receive bad news or hear the siren of first responder or an Amber Alert, offer a prayer together as a family.
Promises in a Jar. Write different bible verses on small strips of paper; roll or fold up and place in a jar. A great way to learn scripture and connect to daily life.
Children’s Prayer Journal. Children can make or decorate their own prayer journal, to write down prayer for others, prayers for themselves, things they are thankful for, and favorite bible verses.
