St. Laurence:  Growing  as an Engaged Church

We the people of St. Laurence Catholic Church are centered
in the love of Christ and live to glorify God in all we do.
  At St. Laurence Catholic Church, we respond to Jesus who calls us to love God and our neighbor.  As a member of this faith community, I strive to: 

• LOVE by showing respect, mercy and compassion to all
• CONNECT with others in a meaningful way
• GROW closer to God through prayer, Sunday Mass and the Sacraments
• LEARN about my Faith and share it with others

Filled with the Holy Spirit, I will be a grateful and supportive member of the Body of Christ.


We strive to be an engaged parish community
In September 2015, over 3,800 adult members of our parish completed a parishioner engagement survey, the ME25.  The results showed that 32% of the people who responded answered the questions in a way that demonstrates parishioner engagement.  This compares to a national average of 16% among all Catholics.  In 2016, ministry leaders identified 4 key areas of engagement that we focused on together as a parish:
 

1. My parish has opportunities to LEARN & GROW.
2. My SPIRITUAL NEEDS are being met.
3. Someone in the parish TALKED TO ME about the progress of my spiritual growth.
4. I have received RECOGNITION OR PRAISE from someone in my parish.

 
Why are we doing this?
Consider our parish mission statement:  We the people of St. Laurence are centered in the love of Christ and live to glorify God in all we do.  Are we doing that?  Are we even close?  How do we help others know Jesus Christ so they can live their life here on earth as one of his disciples?  This is the goal.  To help one another to be centered in the love of Jesus and demonstrate that love in all we do.
 
In early 2018, the parish offered Church Chats following Masses.  These were informal discussion sessions to hear directly from parishioners what they expect from their parish and what they think the parish should expect from its members.  The sessions were lively and informative and we’re grateful to everyone who stopped by to chat.
