Upper School (5th through 8th Grades)

Within the Middle School, the administration and faculty work together to establish classrooms where both teachers and students are actively engaged in learning activities.  We seek from all students the best of their thinking by providing a variety of meaningful experiences so as to ignite a passion for learning.  Middle school life is a daily buzz of activity from core classes and elective classes to sports activities and academic competitions.  Through these educational opportunities, all students feel a sense of belonging and their special niche within the middle school community.

Academic Philosophy

Middle school years are a period of change and discovery.  During this time, the adolescent learner is transitioning from childhood to adulthood as well as changing physically, intellectually, socially and emotionally.  Within a safe and caring environment, middle school staff assists students in successfully accomplishing this transition by providing an engaging curriculum and varied opportunities for student

choices.  In this way, students recognize their strengths, develop their competencies and discover who they are.  Through deeper learning, empowerment and daily faith experiences, middle school students are prepared to interact and contribute positively to their parish and school, to their local community and the to the greater Houston area.

Program of Instruction

Middle school curriculum requires mastery at each grade level in the following subject areas: Religion, English, Literature, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Physical Education.  Additionally, the middle school program offers instruction in various electives, including:  Fine Arts, Foreign Language, and Technology. As a Catholic school, we believe that our students should embrace an understanding of their responsibilities for others.  Therefore, we expect middle schoolers to offer willing service through specific class projects or through active membership in the Leo’s Service Club.  The school takes advantage of cultural and educational opportunities such as field trips to museums and theater presentations in the Houston area that serve to extend student learning.
